Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Il make an appearance if I can get hold of a stand pass!
If I can get one im going to hang around for the sunday near silverstone as im at Santa Pod on the saturday....you still going?
Literally just posted a wanted thread up for a stand pass, il take my car if I can get hold of one as im at Pod on the saturday and was going to stay around then go to Trax on the sunday.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I beg to differ :rasp:
£30 a corner in 195/50/15 compared to £50+ for a decent tyre in 16" wins me over for now :approve:
as said the 172 hubs would need 4mm machining off the strut mount in total, 2mm each side. You would then have to press the axle out and press the valver item in with the bearing. Would fit straight on then and you would have the advantage of the 172 calipers which are more powerful, along with...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Il weigh the bonnet later, im guessing its weight is around a 1/3 of what they are standard....triple skinned in most places!
If a second hand of them was around then yes its worth it for the cost (300 is a bargin for them) but still, just going to stick...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Yeah...I should have really explained it a bit better, as the only wheels I would probably get are Superleggeras LOL. But you probably know yourself how rare they are in clio fitment these days, especially in 15"! ive not seen another set in 16", never mind...
is it level next to the spike? Think it was possibly removed so it would sit flat maybe, not sure!
My battery is too small for my box behind the seat, so its been padded out with foam to make it a tight fit!
Benp chopped the spike thats usually for the spare wheel off, then just drilled through the bottom of the box/bootfloor, and used some hefty nuts/bolts/washers to keep it in place
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Well....... 827kg, good enough for me :)
Needless to say sub 800kg's is easily possible if there was no cage, that weighed 35-40kg alone. Sub 800kg without a cage would be pretty sketchy though ha!
For calculation purposes, im on a standard 172 engine now...
Ahhh right for some reason I thought I spoke to someone with a car that I thought was yours on the friday when we arrived, stupid me lol
Yeah, considering there were 100 cars booked onto tracktime and only 28 out at a time maximum, never waited once! shows how many were broken lol!
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
You need to remove more from the bottom to match mine ;) I took a chunk out and had to do it deeper than i wanted on the bottom lol
I did some reasearch on here about lightening the standard flywheel and there was quite a bit of advice not to, as they arent the strongest once machined apparently!
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Done some more today, quite alot of weight lost. There is nothing else to loose weight wise from the car now really, unless i got lightweight wheels, which is a waste of time anyway IMO...
Right then....today the doors started like this:
Decided where I...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Scoff (ECU supplier) seemed adamant that I would need to machine a tooth out to get the 172 flywheel to a true 60 tooth timing pattern, as standard they have one of the gaps filled in?
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Got a few bits to collect now before the ECU can happen. Need a spare 172 flywheel that I can machine a tooth out of so the timing pattern is correct, along with a few other bits.
ECU Supplier keeps the ECUs and Bare looms in stock, so thats not an issue...
Re: someph-ing different...........
yep, think one of the 182 ones has a diff part number to the others but apart from that they are the same im sure of it
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
you were there james? Should have said would have had a chat...I walked into Scoff and Andy having a conversation about the ECU clinic of all things...
After my box went I gave up and went off taking pictures on the first corner lol.
