if you can find an indicator stalk from a Mk2 Ph1 172 they have a horn button on the end which would mean you could bin your red nitrous buttons (may be the same on all Mk2 Ph1s, can't remember)
i bet both the bolts are caught in the plastic engine undertray... get undernieth, 4x 10mm bolts and it pops off.
While you've got it off, rip the padded oil catcher off and chuck it in the bin, then refit the tray. The padded foam is only useful for collecting spilt oil and adding weight.
i hope you did plenty of layers of laquer... i know you said the vinyl doesnt rub off now, but give it a while of having your hand all over it and they'll soon start to wear. I would do 4 or 5 coats to be sure.
