i took mine down to a local garage when i lost my key, used a special tool smashed onto the face of the nut, then bites into it as they turn, removing the key.....some places also said i would never get them off, it took the guy 5 minutes to do all four with the right tool

L series are only really expensive when you go mega mega mega big, or large fixed prime....
my 70-200mm F4 L was only circa £300 off ebay, was perfect length for oulton, other tracks was a bit short though....sold it for £370 six months later....L series hold their value so well....
The pics...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Few more bits done today....My wishbones never came with these plates, and the balljoints used to work themselves loose in the past, so I wanted to get hold of some. I decided to take them off the blue valver, as that has williams widetrack on it (same wishbones as 172)...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
not vag (audi/volkswagen/etc), its just OBD2 that ive wired into the loom ive been making...plugged the RSTuner unit into it, and it worked :)
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
next few days....got to sort that mess of wiring yet and all the perm/igition lives, to give the clocks power to see if it works.....

Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project

All my wiring is now in the scuttle panel, and comes through...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah, i thought that like on the williams etc, if it dosent cure itself after a bit of a run il take the cover off and put them in diesel....
now its running on the custom loom, well, only 3/4 wires properly connected, lol... got to get cracking to get the clocks...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
bit tappy top end like, f**k knows what that is....
also got a fuel leak from the joint 172-to-valver line, meh...
runs though, only took 2 months
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project

then the whole interior, paint, cage, wiring, seat mounts, steering column, clocks...list goes on
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Timed up, built up, new thermostat housing on with the hole for the additional sensor in a better place.....going back in tommorow :)

Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah, but in my books at this stage it was adequite enough, after all the money and time wasted, and being fucked around by nobber down berkshire for the original engine....
one word sums it all up....begins with D, lol
if it dosent work, il check it properly....when i...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
turned out to be £175 extra was the difference to do a full rebuild of bottom end, inc rings.....but 1. this was available, 2. 5 miles down the road, 3. 172 ph2 that had 30k on it....4. was fine when checked the mains and turned over, we shall see lol
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah I do have the valver, but its not as fun as the other to drive, and im wasting money taxing it which i had to do last month, need my other one on the road by the end of this month ideally so i can claim 5 months back....rather than having to tax both cars in april...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
if i had time, i would.....but im just about at the end of my tether with it now....il just take the chance that its going to be ok, its built back up a complete engine now anyway, cba f**king around stripping s**t down all over again....
If it is fucked, i will say yes...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
block on stand no head in garage, whipped the caps off the mains and they were fine, turned it over was 100x's easier than the other...

Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Bought another bottom end, its back at the factory now.
Thanks to Madmike1, took the caps off to check, and turned it over, all nice...
Hopefully wont have any issues with this one....
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Ok, dosent match, 063410 is the engine i have (if thats the engine number in the pic)
...Which leads me to believe that this engine was originally in the guys car, hes fooked it then bought a replacement, and sold this one...
Martin, can you search for the engine...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
if the bottom end is sound though, whats the point of spending twice as much rebuilding it? Im gona whip the caps off tommorow when i go and see it....
I know what you mean by saying it will be all new, and a perfect bottom end.....but its money at the end of the day...
