Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah 172 starter mate.
Just got back in now, engine back together with new HG...new cambelt, timed up...still wont turn over by hand, well....from the crank pulley it wont, the bolt just gets tighter instead of turning the engine over....But if someone turns the flywheel...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah, going to time it up later, then put the clutch and box on, and see if it turns over by hand outside the car....hopefully all will be well!
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah but still....how was it stuck and not turning over lol, thats the thing
how much is a light skim? thou wise, i can get it done tommorow easily, just weather to bother or not...
Got new crank bolt + new stud for tensioner already, along with the new belt. Got...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah, undid them in reverse order..
Last time i got it skimmed as it was proper manky, and wanted a fresh surface for a new headgasket, but this one isnt too bad...dont know what to do..
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
have done with a steel rule. cant see any light though/gaps at all in any direction, even down the gaps between the bores....
None of the white spirit had gone from the bowls when I got back...valves must be reet...
Dont know if to get it skimmed or not if its flat...mehhhh
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Bit of an update, few things started to go right again...
Drilled pilot hole on the snapped crank bolt, then bigger hole, then used winstons thread extractors which failed....Got some heavy duty extractors and it came out pretty easily :)
Next up, the bent stud...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
doing the timing with the tools, well im not, someone who has timed them up before is...
Just wanted to get the head off, so had to improvise.
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
lol, issues indeed.
I painted it so its a clean surface for the wrap to go over, I was told by a few people its recommended to do so, so if water gets into the wrap when its on the car, and its sat in the wrap, it dosent start rusting the exhaust inside....
Wrap is...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Few productive things done today, along with a few unproductive ones...anyway...
After fitting the downpipe and setting the length when the engine was in, I had the 'adjustable' bit welded up...Then I painted it with high temp paint, along with the manifold itself too...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
its wierd news at the mo, dont know what was causing the engine not to turn over!
mark...ive not tried yet, going to have a go this afternoon....not sure about the solenoid making the gear be stuck in place, as when i removed it, it was in the position it is now...
most places would use a removal key that is smashed onto the locking key, then bites and allows it to be removed.....cant use them after that again though!
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Right then, heres one for you all to have a think about...
Got the engine out, box off, clutch off, inlet off etc, and then into the back of the valver as said...down the factory, while later onto a pallet then onto the engine stand...
Cam covers removed, spark plugs...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
engines out, box/inlet/etc etc all off.....and in the back of the valver...off to the factory to strip it down now meh :dapprove:
i loved my canon 70-200 f4L on my 350d, but it depends how much you want to spend?
I got it off ebay for £300ish delivered, sold it 6 months later for £375, L series lenses hold their value very well...
I was in the same situation, wanted a zoom lens as i was starting out, but just jumped in...
From Snow...
To Sunshine...
And back to snow...
Very good turnout, average pics, was freezing and couldnt really be bothered today...there they are anyway :boring:
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
bottom ends are a new thing to me, lol
sump off, then just remove the bits holding the rod to the crank? and push on them?
or take the crank completely out?
