Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
ah right yeah....technically if i remove the belt and the bottom cambelt pulley, there should be half inch of thread sticking out by the looks of it...if it hasnt stretched in the threads it should be possible to get it out with some grips?!
If not il have to try a...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yep :dapprove:
yes it did, was told by the seller he heard it running before he bought it, then took it home...probably all lies now like.
Ive had the sump off once, but tbh, i wouldnt know what too look for by looking at it to say either 'yes its damaged' or 'no its...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
I guess the engines coming back out then, head and sump off, and check if the crank spins, or if there are any bent valves.
Do the pistons have to come out if im removing the crank (if i need to), and if they have to come out, do they need new rings?
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
thats what caused the bolt to shear off mate^
Hutchie, its not that far lol....i did 500 mile round trip for the engine itself ;)
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah, tried that earlier.
i was spinning the alt and waterpump pullies by hand too, so they must be fine.
basically it now seems im going to have to rip the block apart and see whats happened, ive got a bad feeling the block is fucked....
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
as maxi said, i was told the engine was fine and had been running etc, milage checked out and the cambelt/tensioners were not original, so it had been changed....
plus i didnt want to faff around with the timing on this one just yet, as ive no idea how to do it...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah true, suppose il get the engine back out over the next few days then.
Would it be possible to tell if a bottom end is siezed from looking at it with the sump off (already done previously), or is it a matter of taking the crank off completely?
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yeah, thinking that myself, just means new headgasket/headbolts etc if i take the head off and there is nothing wrong with it.
Only thing i can think is the valves may be bent, and the pistons at the top touching it and wont go any further...meaning it wont turn over...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
will have to see, cba wasting any more time on this engine if i cant even get it to turn over by hand
how does the cambelt bottom pulley go onto the bottom crank, similar to the F7R?
I mean if i take that thread out, is the bottom cambelt pulley going to remain in...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
aye, sheared off.
ben, what did you do? stud extractor?
TBH i think the engine is siezed or something, i physically cant turn it over by hand, so no wonder the starter cant...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
ok the starter has a good earth, continuity test confirms this. Had the starter off, sanded both faces (starter + box) and then refitted. Tried to crank again, solenoid just clicks, then nothing...
Went to try and turn the engine over by hand (bottom crank pulley) and i...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
i see i see....will remove the starter in the morning then.....technically if i try what maxi said, jump lead from the motor to a clean part of the block, it should work as a test? if it does, clean up the block where the motor goes time...?
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
;)
which should mean there is no difference to how it was, as if the earthing points are clean the physical block dosent have to be?
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
didnt paint the starter motor :rasp:
and all the earthing points (gearbox strap, etc) have been sanded back to bare fresh metal today as i was connecting them :dapprove:
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
yep^, and yeah its charged, also got the blue valver running with jump leads connected to the battery, so technically its the most power its ever going to get...
I had sparks coming from the bay at one point, so I thought something must be shorting...removed one of the...
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
currently just failing at getting it started....got the pump priming etc, but starter motor just gives off a loud CLICK on cranking, and dosent turn over....
tried the usual hitting with hammer, etc
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
Well its all in place, rad fitted, hoses on, wiring in (mostly) etc etc....just cant get the fuel lines to fit on the valver end as of the moment....so there is no news as of yet :(
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
you seem to love the wiring grommet, why dont you lend it for a night, maybe you could use it ;)
and for the rest of the normal people, im gona turn it over shortly!
