I think my opinion was much the same as yours at the time. I drove both the Golf and the Megane and felt the Golf was the better choice for my needs and I did like the fact it was faster. However, I soon tired of it to be honest. It's extremely capable, but just not very exciting. It rarely goes...
I just looked on Auto Trader but it seems to have gone. Can't remember the full spec. Still seemed a decent price for delivery mileage and pricey Leather Recaro option!
There were some good deals around to lease these just before production stopped. Part of me wishes I had gone for one instead of the Golf.
Saying that, I saw a 16 plate Cup-S with 100 miles on it for £17.7k recently. It had leather Recaro seats and suede steering wheel too. Seems a bargain that.
I have race boots but that's because I wanted them for rallying...and I'm a tart.
Some nice narrow trainers with the thinnest soles possible is what you want.
Like this a lot. The splitter and willies really do make it.
Not a fan of that. It's a bit try-hard. All this carnards business on hatchbacks is not cool either.
If the harness bar was in the main hoop, might this restrict seat mounting I wonder? Obviously the Clio is a pretty small car, so I wonder if a harness bar might limit how far back the seats could be mounted? Can't think what it would be like off-hand.
I think that's the case with most of the 4WD hot hatches really. My Golf is not very engaging at all, even the super-duper Focus RS still feels a bit fake somehow. They're all very good road cars though, which is what people want I suppose.
I'd really like to drive one of these. Can't imagine it's the most engaging thing ever, but probably overcome by the five cylinder-ness of the engine. Not so sure on the quilted leather on the seats myself though.
I think you're right there and I think that is part of the issue. The 1*2 was great value, while this is expensive compared to the competition. While there might be good deals out there, a lot of people won't know about them, so it just makes this appear quite pricey. Those good deals are also...
Really great pictures of both cars. The two best colours for those two generations of Clio. Absolutely love this one:
@Dr Jekyll you are very welcome to take pictures of my car any time!
It would be interesting to see the sales figures. They were certainly going for broader appeal, but I don't know if that is reflected in sales. I see more 1*2s than any other RS Clio lol.
As others have said, it could do with aftermarket wheels. The spoiler is a bit shouty but it does make it stand-out and gives it a bit more aggression. Someone seriously needs to rip-off the RS.16 wheel arches.
I like the wheels. Not sure I could drive it every day with them but, as a toy, I think it looks good, even better once lowered. It has the red details inside which help tie it together.
I wonder if doing the logos on the doors and the "Trophy" lettering in red might help tie it together more...
Like @182_steve I never used to be that keen on 200s, but they are growing on me a lot. They look really good in a nice solid colour like UR or AG, it really sets them off, much better than the metallic options. Agreed on the subtle mods too. I don't think they need anything externally other...
