The TAR is technically the best assault rifle if were talking damage per second. Just need to master the recoil at long range.

I think scavenger is convenient, Its easy enough to swap to the secondary when you run out and then take the weapon of your next kill, like mrpants said.

build up your sensitivity, the default settings is very slow! Also might be a bit obvious but when shooting long range it's better to tap the trigger quickly than holding it down to avoid the recoil.
