I know what you mean. Mine weren't too bad on mine. I do see some about which look all over the place.
Best thing is to get some nice looking sidelights and silver indicators.

Get a metal drill bit and some self tappers and big washers and fix it back up. I've done it on mine last weekend. It's easily added 5bhp. Lol.
But seriously. It's deffo worth the fix. It's there for a reason.
I drove a 172 before which revs stuck when it was floored. I pooped my pants to say the least as I was heading towards a set of lights at 60+ I did put clutch down but revs were stuck bouncing off limiter.

Welcome to the forum. Like others have said. Save for a faster car. It's pointless trying to squeeze power out a 1.2 in my opinion. I liked my 1.2 purely for the money it cost to run to get from A-B
