is there a difference clearance wise running et43 on 5mm spacers compared to running et38? I guess the outer edge of the wheel (the rim) will be sitting in a different place yet the track will be the same?

How do people MIG on cars? Where do you connect to without frying the electrics etc? Excuse my ignorance seems like a minefield?

yes it does will read faster if you have smaller wheels and read slower if you have bigger wheels. But say you have a 172 / 182 which is meant to have 45 profile 16" wheels, running 50 profile 15" rims has near enough the same outside diameter i.e. the effect is negligible.
