Watch some endurance racing today. Everything was proper smooth around the track and there was no "racing", probably because they didn't want to risk a crash!
Weirdest thing I saw was the Jeep Cherokee safety/recovery car towing a TT at speed on the racing line while other cars were racing...
Made it!! Piece of cake.
Well, apart from the sat nav being gash and having a bit of a wrong turn going past Brussels as I forgot to say turn off. Hand written notes to get to Germany and then CoPilot to the hotel.
Car was faultless on the way. Did a bit of adjustment to the toe in to stop it...
It's more of to get roughly to the right area. Step dad has been several times so knows once he is close. Plus not sure where our hotel is
Stop it!! Car will be fine!!! It's not like it's just had a major refit or anything that hasn't properly been tested. Got breakdown cover if needed.
Getting all the final stuff together. Tool bag sorted, GoPro sorted...
Sat Nav apparently does Europe but not Germany! However I can point to Achen and get directs to that! Apparently does Belgium but won't acknowledge the existence of Liege. So I have downloaded CoPilot and chosen Germany as my...
IT WORKS IT WORKS IT BLOODY WORKS!!!
So...but of a home made loom! Crank sensor off the new engine and the car were different and the engine one was knakard. That was stopping it spark. Then there was an issue with ignition which is controlled by two relays. Swapped around and still nothing...
Like this a lot. Wish I had the time, space, patience and ability to do this kind of restoration work to mine!
Also banner looks good in the garage
Now bidding....£550 starting bid no reserve.
Needs to go to fund the track car
Please share the love and mention it to whoever could be interested in it. Great car for a new driver or a second car run about...
I have no idea, it doesn't actually start 😂 the new ECU has upped the rev limit too so that should give it a bit more noise maybe.
Car currently sits a little higher than that first picture now, wanted it a little more practical than just slammed.
My windscreen has a crack in the lower left hand corner, totalling about 6" in length as it is curved. Done a few track days with it and no one has battered an eye lid to it.
The latest on the car....
Engine in. Seats and harnesses in. Brakes fitted. Suspension on, just needs tracking, Team Dynamics Imola wheels fitted. All looks smart.
However....it doesn't actually start. We leave Thursday evening. Last minute dot com!
Turns over but the fuel pump isn't coming to...
The 172 is back on the road!!! Woop woop!! Only a small bill of £485, but for the hassle of not doing it that is good, and this does include parts.
However, I am so close to admitting I have the Ph1 172 disease and scrapping the E34 idea to buy another 172 as the daily and keeping my current...
Car is sorted now
Apparently it took 8 hours to fix, I would like to know why it took so long seeing as most of the comments here don't mention to remove the sub frame
However they only charged me for 5 hours. Unless this is a marketing ploy so I say they are that good they didn't charge...
^^ This. Mine has done 170k and quite a few of those miles have not been easy.
I was only thinking of doing an engine build not for reliability but for power gains and to give it back its edge. If it wasn't a track car then when it goes pop I would be putting in a second hand engine, and while...
Isn't it technically only two nuts - one on each end of the hose plus a few clips?
It is more of the thinking and ability to do fiddling things I lack, and how to get around things in non-ideal situations without breaking or damaging it. If it were on a bench where I could easily get a spanner...
I have had all of those off at some point.....and I am not the most practically minded person in the world. And I also don't own a ramp either, which is a big thing to gain access/ease of working.
When this happened to the rear beam bolts me and my brother instantly got the grinder out and cut them off, this didn't add much time you are right. It was getting a replacment that took time as we dodn't have anything long enough in the shed.
Not sure why they are removing it, I wouldn't know...
I have a 1.4 Clio for sale which is cheap.....however I need it until the 172 is fixed, which should be hopefully this weekend.
I bought this car to keep me going over last winter while the 172 was getting some serious love.
Sorry a little off topic and a shamelss plug for the advert!
I have got the low and high pressure pipes, and I think it is the high pressure pipe that has failed. He said there are three on the rack or pump (can't remeber what he said) and it is the middle one. I am hoping that it is one of the pipes I have bought! If not and if they have taken them out...
@jesus you are thinking the same as me with an ED build. Mine car is currently at 170k miles (the 35k miles that I have owned it have been very well looked after despite the track abuse). I have done pretty much 99% of the chassis upgrades I want and its time for me to move onto power.
I was...
Ok small update...this is hilarious tbh.
Borrowed mother's car to get to work this week, that broke on the way to work Monday - wipers stopped working (motor is nakard) during the pouring rain. Had to stop. Nothing I could do so got recovered. When I was rescued it had stopped raining and...
Car update:
* daily Clio not road legal still being sold
* 172 in the garage getting repaired
* borrowing mum's car this week as I am car-less - this has now broken on the way to work. Wipers have just stopped and I can see naff all. Fuses good, swapped relays. Nothing.
THIS IS NOT IDEAL!! In...
@Dr Jekyll Have you sabotaged my car??!! As its currently in the garage getting the power steering sorted. And seeing as I am spending money on it I was thinking of keeping it. Hate spending money and seeing no benefit seeing as this won't make it more valuable to sell. Damn thing!!
Car is now in the garage getting this sorted. Got the pipes from Renault this morning (well it was the Ford dealership as that is apparently where you order Renault parts from....logic). Feels weird giving my car to a garage, first time in 10 years of driving I am not doing the work!
Thanks...
The original plan this morning was to do it myself tomorrow after taking it apart and assessing it today. However it has changed after looking how it is done and I don't have any help from my step dad as he is at working.
It was urgent until I saw the effort needed! I've taken it on the chin and going to take another day off work. Car is now the daily again. Needed urgent help and advice if I was going to do it tomorrow. But that plan has changed
That plug looks ok, all bone dry. But I'll ask the garage...
Like the bodge, if it works then who cares!!!. But I've bought the right parts and want it done properly. But the metal pipe is quite corroded on the outside so not sure if it's able to do this simple fix.
The pipe appears to be leaking from the crimped join between the metal section (to the pump) and the hose section (to the pressure switch by the alternator). The metal section is quite corroded so probably worth a change.
Going to speak to my step dad when he gets home from work and take it...
