The THB200A I had was 75w and sounded mental. I think playing with the settings is the key, but once they're right then you can leave them that way.

It's not that bad. On the Blaupunkt, you don't need a remote. The dials are easy to access, just slide it from under your seat and adjust what you need to, then put it back. Once adjusted though I just left it. The Blaupunkt also fits absolutely perfectly under the passenger seat. I've found...

Only from one side though? They haven't always done it, only recently and it's very loud.

They were already drilled + grooved when I got the car. They have lasted too... they don't seem to have worn down at all! Doesn't disappear with heavy braking.

Nope none of those things. What could they be a symptom of? Pads + calipers have recently been changed and it was doing it before that.
