As the posts above say, make sure the oil temp is warm, also I've read a faulty temp sensor can cause the limiter to kick in early.

Can't you come through whitefield/Prestwich, pick up the east lancs, then past hope hospital and pick Trafford Park up from there? That's the way I normally go when I'm traveling over that side of Manchester.

As said, the RS's are pretty poor at low RPM, you can get it mapped to smooth out the power curve so you've got more grunt at lower RPM but you'd then lose the "5k kick". It really shouldn't feel slower than a 1.4 Corsa at any revs though :S

ITG panel filter and remove the acoustic valve and you'll get a nice induction note from that.
