i think renault should stay with a n/a engine, theirs no need for the mk4 to be any heavier than it is, their is more power to be squeezed and i for one dont like the way turbo FWD cars drive.
its not just all about mpg though a 172 isnt very refined compaired to a diesel, if i have to do a long journey ill take the diesel every time over the 172, apart from the fact it costs pennies to run its smooth, quiet, and goes much better under 5k revs ie around town compaired to the 172
personally for me it would be a late 172 (53 or 04 plate) for your money you would get a complete minter with some change! plus 03 onwords had ESP and 53 onwords had cruise control.

vrs is an extremely capable car, but standard vs standard its not 172 pace, my dci is more on par with fabias untill 80mph then they have the legs slightly compaired to a 172
