i wouldnt bother if its purely for money saving purpouses, i go through this stage with Renault 5 GTT's every once in a while but in reality its just not worth it!
lol they mods at most would give 10bhp taking you to around 1.6 16v performance yet your doing 0-60mph in 2 seconds less. must be the removal of that iron filled rear bench, grille and spare wheel, wonder what sort of gains you would get from removing that fire extinguisher?
god i feel so...
you wont get any gains on the 1.2, the standard throttle body isnt small enough to cause any sort of bottle neck, that engine doesnt need much air to run! plus the crappy plastic inlet manifold is the main problem on it being so long, you would probably get better gains swapping to a newer style...
its due its 2nd cambelt change next year so make sure its had its first at least!! they are every 5 years or 72k what ever comes first! many think its just 72k!
check exhaust for blowing joints or welds
rear damers leak and make the handling "interesting"
engine mounts wear and brake over...
yeah agreed we had looked at a few 1.4 16v's for her too due to slightly cheaper insurance but didnt see the point when for the same price we could have the extra 10bhp and more torque so 1.6 it is, one thing i will say though is the mpg seems to be around the same as you would get from a 172, 2...
would hammer a 1.2 16v, quicker than the dci untill 80, dci pulls quicker over 80mph. not sure if it handles as well as the dci, it felt better at first but then once i got back in the dci it felt better with the heavyer steering, although both are running cheap tyres at the moment so its hard...
sitting in my garage with no suspension and brakes on waiting on my bilstein B14's coilovers coming and HiSpec 300mm 4 pots
lol yeah! coils from a mk3 mate? its got a warranty on it but if it gives a load of problems ill swap them!
my 100 has done this a few times too, never got to the bottom of it, ran a full tank of V power diesel with some millers diesel sport 4 thru it and its been fine since
