My Megane has Recaro seats and I regularly do 100 mile drives in it with no problems. They look quite extreme, but they're actually very comfortable :)

Yeah I agree with @bloke, it should be fine if it's just made inoperative during running, so lock it or cover it.

You might be able to have it there, but just need to make it so it can't be adjusted during a race. Perhaps have a cover over it or similar.

It says in the MSA blue book that you should be able to reach them when strapped into the car. Though I suspect many cars have them mounted where people can't reach them.
