It comes on at 1G left .. did you put 50l in when you filled up ? If not, don't worry about it. If something is not working, I wouldn't bother trying to fix it - just fill up when it gets near the red ?!

Take the seat out, remove the bump stop things that are between the seat and the carpet and you will gain (lose) about 15-10mm IIRC.

Buy a £5 eBay "filter" and see if it's any good then.

The aperture won't give you the correct focus... If you want a shallow DoF then you want to shoot as big an aperture (small number) as possible. If you check your light meter in the view finder and you shoot at f8, it will be at a much faster shutter speed than at f/16. Shoot both and see...
