Im keeping mine as is.
the 16" wheels fill the arches just right and the right is perfect for me.
I would definately drop lesser clios though because they look like they have a fear of the ground
The 172 is a great car.
Only real downsides are the very heavy clutch, but you quickly get used to that. Everything else about the car is awesome, from the handling to the power!
If you get one, youll love it

Horsepower fast first calculated at how quickly a horse could lift a certain weight (cant remember the weight) through a pulley to the top of a barn.
Cant remember specifics but thats the jist of it
Ive noticed that when the wheels are at full lock there is quite a loud squeaking sound, especially on the left side front wheel.
Ive got 205/45 16" wheels. Could it be rubbing? or is it the suspension or what?
Im running on 93, and all the cars here seem fine. Not sure if Renault do anything to the cars they export here.
Also just realised we live at 1500m above sea-level so I dont think the cars would run lean with 93 here at this altitude.
We also only get 95 at thew coast so I guess its ok to...
Well I read the reason the 172 got 172bhp was because Renault thought Peugeot were going to release the 206 with their 167bhp engine, which they didnt
Good for Reno, Bad for Pug.
Maybe this is Pug trying to out bhp the Clio

I thought they calculated the power at the wheels on the RR run then when the engine slows down by itself they are able to calculate the losses that way and give you a pretty accurate FW reading
Ive been worrying about the box in mine, but I think its just me not used to the heavy clutch and the fact that when I disengage the clutch without enough rpm (which is pretty much how I drove my 1.4) im liable to come close to stalling.
Ive found the best way is hover the revs at 3k and...

Does anyone have any comments on octane booster additives
because I believe the 172 is happiest with 98 octane but all I can get here regularly is 93 octane.
I know the WRX STi drivers use additives for their cars

Thanks guys, Im well impressed with it.

Geoff, her first words when she sat in it were "Oh my baby, this is nice!!!"

I picked up my Odyssey Blue 2001 mk1 172 yesterday and all I can say is "WOW".
At first, I had to get used to the sport clutch but Im now used to it and have been having a blast.
Only real challenge I had was a 3-up 528i but then again it wasnt even a challenge ;)
p.s. I now know what all...

Well Ive been on both now, and both cars are great.
To me the the cars characters are as follows
Clio - Slightly more practical, with a slightly more mature feel to it as if its the current champ hothatch. More traditional
Cooper S - The new kid on the block who doesnt follow the rules...
