Doesn't overly matter on the processor - unless you ever sit in front of it for anything, RAID is handled by the chipset and NIC is offloaded for most tasks, so whatever goes in there will sit there twiddling it's thumbs.
Building/buying - it's your call. You could get one with the exact...
More RAM? WHS doesn't need RAM so much, all it is is a pretty NAS.
Best WHS in the world is a cheap Core2Duo, 4GB RAM cos you can in a big f*ckoff case with millions of HDDs.

Well, you're not giving us a lot to help with are you!
What's wrong with it?
Why did they say it's not fixed?
How old is it?
Has it got excessive physical damage?
Without those all you've done is moan that it's crap?
Definitely a typo, done research. D920 is their stepping for the refresh of their Core i7. Suspect it's a G0. Nae mind - the Q6600 chips are ace (I've got 3!) and clock to hell and back. Well worth the moneys.
If you do go the ATI route, defo go for an Intel chipset. My Maximus Formula clocks...
At the moment if you could manage a 4890, it'd serve you well. I'd also try to get a board running an Intel X** chipset or nVidia *80i chipset (680i is getting long in the tooth now though!). The Q6600 is good, but D0 stepping? Not come across that one. Any linky? The spec's starting to look...
ATI do have some good value kit going at the moment - whilst the same generation nVidia stuff is better performing typically, it's also more expensive.
I think the point he was asking was 'do you have any (relevant) PC (building) experience', rather than how big your IT dick was. Mildly impressed though - although I can top that in that the first computer I repaired by changing parts was a 386SX, and then my 486DX2 and replacing the chip for...
You'd use either of those?
I'd not buy anything other than DDR3-based stuff now, and the HDD is similar price to 750GB ones... And not a mile away from 1TB!
Comment submitted for moderation. Including a lesson on the English language, what with his comments of 'acceteration', 'black smoke out the back', and no capital at the start of a sentence.
If you're going to be a sad c'unt reporting someone on the interwebs for having a smokey car, at least...
I'm going to disagree with Roy and say that the Core2 line of mobile processors are worth every penny over their Pentium Dual-Core counterparts.
It won't be a 'night and day' difference, but will be quicker and slicker and the Core2 are much better at dealing with media.
Yawn.
The fact that you'd have to 'find a Vista/XP downgrade cd' suggests you're out of your depth technically, and don't understand why Vista uses the resources it does, and why some tasks are slower whilst others significantly faster.
However what you're forgetting is that when you're lying in bed on your laptop or sat in front of the TV, is you've got to go and turn the main computer on, wait for it to boot, then print to it, rather than just printing to it.
Network printing is most definitely the way forward - printer...
They aren't all that and they're huge - although if I had to look good at the golf course then I'd choose it.
Really, really don't get the point of the Blackberry. And you can't even argue that it's better than WM, because Blackberries crash just as often (in fact, I'd say more often - my...
Man speeks troof. As long as people write anti-piracy s**t, people will write s**t to strip it out. And as Roy says, Crysis is easier to get working if you've got a dodgy copy that doesn't need the disc in than it is with thier original disc - it was notoriously bad and nearly cost EA a...
Wind your neck in sunshine, I asked a very valid question. You're suggesting that every server support engineer this side of a worthwhile qualification is wrong - if you were a chippy who goes to the pub with a guy who knows someone with an IT shop... You get the picture.
The fact is that...
Oh, and topped off with a godawful 'Copy Protection' system that causes no end of issues worldwide.
When will these people learn that copy protection actually puts people off buying games. If I knew the amount of issues I'd have with Crysis, Warhead and Wars before buying them, I'd not have...
It's enough on a 64-bit OS, but I'm referring to even fairly modern games which aren't tested/supported on 64-bit systems. There's a lot of b****cks floating around (spurred on by the pub 'experts') regarding 64-bit OS's and the use in/around the house. The plain fact is unless you run Flight...
Just had my first proper crack on Crysis Wars. My thoughts?
w**k. Utter shite. No real 'objective', lots of people who are disorganised with no team commander or at least some form of structure, a massive imbalance in weapons between n00bs and long termers and the only thing going for it is...
