I've got a magnex, the looks aren't to everyones taste, but I'm liking them more and more. The sound is goergeous and the quality seems pretty dam good.

If it was service at 15k I would wait until you hit 24k, or a year after the 15k service.

Did it get it's 12k done alright? There's certainly no harm in getting it done early, just means the next one will be due at 32k instead of 36k. So you'll end up paying earlier and not getting full use of the parts, etc.

I had a piper open air on mine, it was crap, really wouldn't suggest it, or any open filter. I have an ITG Panel as well, but as I said, no noise difference.

Open air filter will give a nice sound, but will make it worse on performance. Forced air are quieter but will give better performance. I have a panel filter myself, really no difference on noise or performance.

The actual back light should be fairly cheap (if you can find the right type for a old laptop). It is the labour that will cost so much, if you can get someone to do it for you then it won't cost a lot. Hope that helps ^ :S

Get a very very powerful torch and shine it on the screen (with the laptop on). If you can make out the desktop, etc then the backlight has gone, which is usually reasonably cheap to replace.
