not on race pads!
race pads must be able to move in the carrier/caliper
REMOVE the shims and grind down the edges of the back plates (not the friction material)
just unbolt the ball joint (do the 2 x 18mm bolts, not the pinch bolt) and you'll be able to pull the driveshaft out the hub, that way you don't touch the brakes or anything (you will have to put the steering on full lock, right hand down for passsenegr side removal, opposite for the other side)
