How many miles has the car/clutch done mate? Mine in the RT didn't go until about 70-80k miles. Which isn't too bad imo.
Have you noticed any smells or anything like that? Tbh it's a good excuse to buy a nice new shiney one now, nothing better, it feels so sure under foot now when changing...
Try accelerating up a steep hill and seeing if the revs increase but your speed doesn't. If it does, then it's slipping. I noticed mine just hammering it up the slip road on to the motorway from 2nd to 3rd. The revs would rise but I'd not be going any faster. You'll hear the engine note...
That's what I thought about mine, "ah probably needs a good service" but it's had most things done. Fuel Filter, Oil Change, Spark Plugs, HT leads, new Panel Filter, checked tyre pressure (28 front / 32 rear). :S Just been out today and she has 1/4 tank left and I've done ~230miles. Meh! What...
It costs me about £30-£35 to fill her full. But my mates Mk1 Ph3 is exactly the same as well. I think it's because of the mileage personally. His has done over 100K miles and mine has done just over 95k miles.
Lol, bland, I can see the needle move too but that's when you go up a steep hill...
Sounds about the same as me. Usually if I rag it most of the time I'm lucky to get 200miles. If sensibly I will get 250miles and then if doing motorway journys (I went from Newcastle to Wales) I will get 350+ miles. :)
If you think she's drinking the petrol, perhaps change the sparks and...
If you haven't got much money why not look at saving some by purchasing a m\steel system. For example, Ashley or Piper, and I guess a few others make both m\steel and s\steel systems. You'll still get a good few years from a m\steel system and imo it gives a slightly different sound. :) Just...
A silenced de-cat with a std. system is not going to increase the noise that much, perhaps only at full boot. However, aftermarket exhaust systems will be louder than std. (apart from the stealth systems) and so adding the silenced de-cat onto an aftermarket system will be loud. :)
If you...
The Power Steering draws the power from the engine, you should notice when turning the wheels at idle sitting still the rev's will change. If it's stalling when that happens then I'm guessing the idle is too low. I don't know how to change this though... sorry.
As per Oilman's advice to me to quieten mine down on my car, try using a top end fully synthetic oil such as Motul 300v and then try some top-end as well. My guess is the oil and filter need a good change on the car if it's quite old. :)
Hope I'm not too late in getting some advice on oil Simon!
1995 Clio RT 1.4 8v (currently on 92k miles)
She's very noisy when first started, sounds like pistion slap imo, but a bit tappety as well however once warmed up she's fine.
Currently using Halfords Fully Synthetic 5w-40 oil in her...
^ Good choice mate. :) Possibly get some pics and sound clip? I have one of their systems on my RT.... with a silenced de-cat. The sound is very loud, but I love it! I know some people hate loud exhausts and some love them, I'm the latter. Pops and spits all the time, but for the money (It...
Did it make any sort of noise when you turned the key, like a clicking? It could of been a few things, but if it made perhaps a noise it could be the starter motor? Mine had issues like this then one day didn't start at all unless bump started. Think it cost me £70 for a new one.
EDIT: Oh...
I've just bought a set of these (not fitted yet) glad they seem to do the trick. :) I know Mintex are good but had heard nothing on these pads before I bought them. Can't wait to fit them with my 16v calipers and Brembo discs. :D
Stick with the 15s. 17s will make the handling quite poor, and of course slow the car down. You can get away with 16s but imo I wouldn't go bigger as it looks out of place. :)
I think the two pipes which become defunk when using the k&n are just for aiding the engine when started from cold.... I think.... it may be something to do with recirculating air. Or something like that. lol.
I should also of said that the second car initally had a viper ik on it, but my bro removed it as the car felt really sluggish. I don't know if perhaps the enclosed kit restricts the air available too much, if you know what I mean, whereas an open cone can get air from a 360 degree radius (but...
Hmm good idea, but the de-cat is like one of the cheapest mods to release some good power. Granted MOT time you need to swap them back, but I couldn't justify that much money on my little 1.4 on just a sports-cat!
The Gen2 is a good piece of kit. My bro has had two now, on both of his cars (granted they are not Clio's but Ford Focus') but both have shown gains in bhp. :) Give's a lovely sound as well. It's probably the only open cone filter I'd say to people its a good buy. I'm happy with a good panel...
