Who was this guy that diagnosed it and did he recommend you change the flux capacitor also? So its smelling like it was running rich therefore change the fuel filter!?! I thought he diagnosed a shafted coolant temp sensor... so that wouldn't at all cause it to run rich then, no?
Deffo a broken ring that chap... visual inspection needed to confirm but assuming its not damaged anything exiting the vehicle you should be alright fixing this yourself
As asked earlier, have you actually got diesel at the injectors? You can prime with the bulb all you like but if there's air between the pressure vessel and the injector pipes it will not fire. Also, manual cracking will not generate enough pressure to self bleed an airlock which is why you need...
Injectors leaking give a distinct noise compared to diesel knock so does it sounds like a massive exhaust blow under the bonet resulting in black crap around the injectors or does it sound like a hammer hitting metal?
