You won't have to pull the gear knob of, jaysus! The gaitor will undoubtedly be cable tided on the inside, making it tighter. When looser it should slip over the knob. You need to unclip the gaitor at the bottom, then turn it inside out on itself, you should see a cable tie.

You're putting the RS4 wheels on? Awesome. Really really modernises it. Glad you're impressed with it so far, it's a car that ticked all my boxes, just not yet...
