sounds more like alternator though imo,
can prob get a 2nd hand 1 quite cheap id imagine and then he could get a garage to fit it or whatever

yep, the amp will have a red cable going to it, the power
black cable, the earth, usually the problem
small blue one, remote cable from the headunit to tell the amp to come on and go off etc

ive recently changed from sony to jvc
my sony was a good unit, lasted 3 years with no problems, minidisc headunit
but needed upgrade to mp3, jvc player, nice picture screen, sound quality is a fair bit better aswell
