Definately sounds like a car fault to me....I've come from 260bhp and 4wd to my172 and it is hard to get the power down to just two wheels but haven't experienced any knocking as of yet.

It's possible and I've seen a few kits for the 172 but at around 5-6k is it really worth it....fwd car is going to have a lot to deal with as well as the gearbox/drivehafts etc. I've just come from a turbo car and it is fun but lots of maintainance needed to keep everything working properly!

6k for the bodywork! Lot of money for cosmetic stuff..I would have saved my pennies and gone for a 172/182

Leave the looks as is and go for engine/performance modifications:)

Thanks Matty The clio 172 sports cat isn't listed on Demon Tweeks catalogue but I have seen Janspeed stuff on there. I'll give them a ring to make some enquiries.

YOu have to cut the OE system to fit just a backbox to the 172....the exhaust from the cat back is in one piece! Nice one Renault.

OE airbox with decent panel filter IMHO Induction kits are a waste of money unless your gong for big power....you may find you'll actually loose bhp and torque.

I paid 7500 for my 172 with 13500 miles on it Seen lots for around the 7-7500 mark with that kind of milage

10-15bhp in it between 172 and 182....not going to make much difference. The Sachs dampers in the Trophy do make a difference though. I think the 172/182, cup etc is just a Renault marketing ploy.

From previous experience decatting cars (subarus) it will make the car a touch louder. Wouldn't of thought it would be that bad though with a Stealth..that system is pretty reasonable for noise.

I've only had my 172 a couple of months and have noticed similar things. Engine is no where near as smooth/consistent on idle as my old car and the car does make a very small sound when engaging first. Revs do drop slightly when turning wheel parking etc but I'm sure that's got something to do...

Your a very brave man My gf is doing her test soon and has mentioned getting insured on my 172 when she passes. Let me think......mmmmm I don't think so!

Thanks for the brake advice Evogone...do agree with you on the discs as I had drilled/slotted ones on two of my previous cars and didn't notice a great deal of difference.

I paid 7500 for my 172 Cupcake Full history and 13500 on the clock so I reckon it was an okay deal. Brought it privately and the couple who were selling it were very genuine so I had no doubts about the condition etc of the car.

cant agree more.... changing this can make large differences Too true The K&N on my old Renault 19 16valver sounded great but really knocked the torque back

Re: just brought a 182!! Nice one...enjoy I stepped down power wise from a Jap Import WRX but am really surprised how much fun these Clios are...petrol consumption isn't that bad either!:D
