I never bothered and never had any problems... but it's only because I'm lazy. Just be careful around the airbags. If you're really bothered then just disconnect it buddy only takes a minute or two! Although of course you should leave the car around 15 minutes afterwards before working on it.

My town driving stuck at a completely stable 26mpg... however been driving a couple of counties away for a few weeks whilst doing a training course and it's now sitting on 31mpg :) sure it will gradually come back down though.
