If the discs & pads look ok, it could be pad deposits on the disc. Do you sit at traffic lights with your foot on the brake, or do you use the handbrake?
I settled on the Michelin PS3's in the end, being fitted Saturday. I've got some Gtechnic C5 Wheel Armour to go on tonight too.
I got the tyres for £114 each fitted through Black Circles, as well as almost 1,000 clubcard point which is a nice bonus.
Thanks for the advice guys
Chris
I'm pretty sure the Formula Ford's run the 1.6 200ps version of the ecoboost engine. I think the 1.0 version was just a marketing/engineering excercise.
Aside from the RenaultSport models I think the rest of the MK3 range probably had the same setup (260mm?)
What's wrong with the current set-up? pretty sure it should be able to handle 86bhp fairly easily as it'll be the same as the TCE setup.
Put it this way, i'm getting more to the gallon now with a turbochared 2.5 5 pot turbo lump with 100bhp and 150lb-ft more torque oh, and 50kg more weight than I ever did in my 197.
I think i'm down to the Bridgestone S001 or Uniroyal RainSport 3's.. I had Rainsport 2's on my 197 and was pleased with them, but something about the S001's is drawing me in.
There's a wildcard too, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's are appealing but that's mainly due to the way they look!

So today's update is - front brakes!
Picked these up about 14:30 this afternoon, they are calipers from a Focus ST, along with a new set of 320mm discs and pads (the riginals are 300mm)
This was how they looked when collected from Nottingham ford breakers:-
This is the original set up...
Im aware of the block issue, to my knowledge even the st is pretty safe at 330-350bhp. Having said that, I'm planning on shimming the block when I do the cambelt later this year to ensure reliability.
All I can assume with the exhaust is that the Volvo unit is more restrictive than the ST and...
Morning all,
I'm after some reccomendations for decent rubber in the above size for my new wheels.
I'm currently looking at Bridgestone Potenza S001, Contisport 5's etc but cannot make up my mind. Any thing else I should be looking at (Hankooks maybe?)
Cheers,
Chris
Yeah not far away, I'm about a minute off jct 28!
Off ft to collect the wheels tomorrow, got a bit of a bargain at £425 for the set fully refurbed. They usually fetch a lot more but this happened to finish at a silly time (14:52 on a Wednesday?!?). Now just to decide on a set of tyres (and fit...
Morning guys,
I'm off to pick up a set of wheels tomorrow that have recently been refurned and powder coated. Currently they have no tyres so it's an ideal time to get the well sealed.
I've never really done anything with wheels so have no idea what's best, can anyone give me a list of...
Quick update. Won an eBay auction today for a set of 18" Volvo Medusa wheels which were an option wheel for the r design I beleive. They are freshly refurbed and ready for new rubber, hoping to pick them up at the weekend. Ok so it loses a little of the sleeperness but it'll smarten the car up...
Good on the guy for doing that, sounds awesome. I really wish they'd put the 2.4 lump in the S40, however I can understand why they didn't.
I looked at the S60's when buying mine, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy one!
Glad I'm not the only grandad car driver on here anymore!
Any ideas where it was mapped and anything else it had? 320bhp and 330lb-ft sounds a lot from just a remap!
