ive never owned a 197, but have owned a cup chassis 200. I went ph2 172 > ph1 172 > 200 > ph2 172.
I swapped back down to a 172 to save cash, the 200 was obviously the much better car, it was better built with no rattles although it was brand new of course!, it felt much more refined which took...
my 172 cost me £1000 to buy, ive spent £2500 on it in 6 months, previous owner probably spent £1200 on it in 6 months.
depends how picky you are and what you consider a money pit lol
its a 52 plate on 100k
RB320 is the headgasket that fails isn't it due to turbo being too close/hot for it!?
back on topic, as much as I blew a clio 200 engine up, they generally are reliable my 2nd engine was a cracker!
ok then another while im at it!!! this was when I was 17 and worked 2 days a week so could spent the other 5 polishing my car, never had a machine polisher back then either all done by hand!
if your worried about power loss (as I would) with a patern part one id be going k-tec sports cat
however id be tempted to just get a 2nd hand one from ebay or here first as its not a massive common area to fail
have to agree there I nearly sold my first 172 as I just didn't get on with it at all and didn't see what the big deal was with them, I had no confidence in it at speed limits never mind faster and then it failed its first mot on a leaking rear shock! the new pair transformed it into the car the...
its definitely worth doing if the engines coming out for something, I fitted my last one by removing the subframe as said above and its a pain in the arse but imo was still worth the hastle, I gained mid range torque and peak bhp, although that was fitted in conjunction with a ktec Decat/link...
I cant believe some people buy a performance n/a car and don't use the engine the way it was intended, my 172 feels sluggish on a spirited drive unless im using the FULL rev range, my 200 was even worse, they REALLY need revved!
i cant remember exactly but im sure its about 7400rpm, its a good bit higher than a 172 shift light!
if you've only taken it to 6000rpm then you havn't felt the car really pull they go mental the last 1000rpm
looking good big stuff, I remember boosting down a backroad in my mates fiat uno turbo sitting on an oil drum as it had no seats and every time I pressed the clutch I nearly fell off it!
Re: Just a feed of me Clio Gt feedback please
looks quite good actually, I wouldn't go for anymore white on the outside incase it starts to look too much if you start going for white front badge etc.
shame its not the Diesel :p
if you look at where the outer bolt is on the balljoint you will see its off centred, that shows the extra castor ones. I searched for 10 minutes on google/ebay looking for a picture of a non extra castor one and couldn't find any but basically the outer bolt is centred rather than offset
mk3 non RS clios also got the springs changed mid life the top mounts are different, so there is 2 different specs of springs.
given that the GT had different spec dampers im going to take a wild guess and say that id imagine all GT's use the same dampers/springs so if you buy the specific ones...
a few years back I was streaming internet radio in my clio GT because It had a Bluetooth stereo, back then I only had a 500mb data allowance, I done it one month and ran up a £150 bill and didn't bother doing it again lol!!
172's after a certain year use the same "cup spec" extra castor bottom arms, balljoints are the same, my 2002 52 plate has them, I had an 02 that didn't.
all you need is the front hubs with 182 cup bolt spacing for the dampers, and although not needed you would want the extra castor "cup spec"...
no point spending the cash on ds2500 on a 1.2, speak to G172 on here he will sort you out with Mintex fast road pads at half the price of the Feroddos and Brembo HC discs along with superblue brake fluid, ive just fitted this combo onto my 172 along with braided lines and they are night and day...
lol if I owned a garage and had a new owner do that id ram the driveshaft up his rear end!
if it has the wrong abs ring then the abs will be kicking in all the time when breaking and the speedo may play up.
if not then chances are as much as it may look different its still doing the correct...
