Yeh you need to THOROUGHLY clean it out, i mean, like 3/4 cans of brake cleaner and a good hour or so! before reoiling. use PTFE spray too rthaer than grease as grease traps dirt.
yeh thats the general concensus. i hated 7's when i was working there. hideous things to work on. especaily those with the twin cam! best ones i worked on would be the dolly's and the gt6's. guy i worked with had a mint gt6 mk1..

Yeh, its why not many got sold out there due to the lack of performance and americans wern't keen on the looks, the 7 was designed entirely for the american market. and unfortunatly it flopped which pretty much killed triumph in the day.

The most we ever had from one was circa 210. but they have a pretty ropey rolling road, so i'd never trust the readouts lol. the webbers arent really the best, ideally you'd run it on EFI and jenvey's. biggest restriction on them as standard believe it or not is actually the wheel arch...
TR5 is where its at, or put a 5/6 engine into a 4(not 4a) and you'll have alot of fin with a live axle!
Edit, just seen its got an RTR front arb kit, i helped the development of that on my apprenticeship!

I've had 3 ph1 172's, and 2 williams. To this day i'd still say the williams is slightly quicker through the gears to the rev limiter in 5th... i've only had 1 ph1 that'd hit the rev limiter in 5th, and that took alot of autobahn(about 4 miles!) but the williams i own now will hit the rev...
