Standard airbox with standard feeds, something im going to look at next.
personally the 182 manifold was the best i done (along with decat i got a huge gain out of that, i recon thats where most of my 15lb/ft has came from its 10lb/ft up throughout the full graph and peaks 15lb/ft higher than...
think standard is 2.25"? dont actually think any aftermarket manufactureres do 2.25" systems for them do they? whats the supersprint cup racer exhausts?
as far as i know i was the highest powered 172/182 of the day, not sure if any actually made over 180?
Matched Inlets
Inlet Gaskets
182 Manifold
Decat
K-Tec Stealth
ITG Pannel Filter
all the 172's and 182s ran consistent power, as with last year, the ST isnt running right, its getting a diag as its boosting harder sometimes than it does others. and alis V6 ran under powered last time too so either falklands fan isnt up to it for the V6 or they just arnt making book power.
a good service isnt going to make much if any difference 2 performance though, apart from if the airfilters realy clogged. maby if it was miss firing due to the plugs or something then yes.
now before anyone starts the not worth it, too much work usual crap, im not thinking about doing this and looking for advice, im just more interested in the technical side of things as it seems quite an interesting conversion for the future.
recently as 172 engines came down in price people...
afaik a MK1 172 has a longer 5th gear ratio than a MK2 172 and VTS's have quite short ratio boxes? depends if the saxo was standard, keeping in mind a saxo with only a few breathing mods is going to be probably over 140bhp? some standard 172s run as long as 145-155bhp! so its going to be close...
i really really want one only thing is my car is only really a weekend car for going out blasts with the boys in the summer and it spends most of its time in tripple figures speeds chasing other cars so the front end takes a hammering, tyres and brakes are constantly needing replaced and im not...
ive spent a fortune in the past years trying different brakes, exhausts, filters etc and when i total it up it makes me sick and ive not spent a quarter of what some people spend! i started off only improving things i felt needed improved but in the last year ive ended up buying stuff just for...
ive said it years ago and ive just driven my 172 with 15" wheels for the first time, and oh my god no wonder the mk1 172 is the most fun! so much more feedback from them you can really feel yourself getting to the limit, slightly less grip but thats expected with the width you can really throw...
mine sometimes refuses to start at the petrol station, then suddenly fires up on the 2nd attempt. its done it a few times but for some reason seems to happen most at the petrol stations. i recon the TDC sensor needs cleaned ive just never had time.
any turbo imo is going to need a remap. BUT i beleive paul at RSTuning now also does a similar service to Fastchip where you can have an ECU map tailored to your car and emailed to you to be uploaded with the RStuner or RSTuning box (depending on who does the map)
aye saw that going about too, never had a chance to have a blast with any of them, quite fancy destroying them and puting them back in their place haha
theirs plenty going about over 100k that are reliable.
thing is, the engine will outlive the car no problem, engines are bullet proof when serviced.
the cars are generally Very reliable IF they are driven properly. take it down a backroad daily for 100,000 miles and drive it hard and it...
ive not got the mild steel system your talking about but ive got the 2.5" stainless system and ive ran it with and without a cat.
with a cat you pretty much cant hear it around town, motorway its very quiet, not much louder than standard when your up to speed.
without a cat its not too bad...
looking at about £1500 for everything needed, Matt does conversion kits with everything needed.
most places would charge around £1500ish for labour so your looking at £3000 to do it.
only way i would do it is if like me you could do it yourself and save labour then its a cheap power gain!
ive got a dci65 (not a van but the same really!) its on 150k miles, drives like brand new, as far as i can see its still on the factory clutch, gearbox has just gone with no signs of warning but these things happen
as long as its had regular oil changes it will be fine! yep belt need done but...
