I’d say you’re doing the right thing.
IMO with Clios there’s a point of diminishing returns and that comes after decent road tyres and brakes.
When you go on track and see how fast a Honda type r is you’ll realise you just need to have fun with what you have. If you want to go mad on a track...
Also, while you’re at the electrical connector checking have a look at the loom plug on the bulkhead.
Gotta be a dodgy connection somewhere going off the symptoms.
My car was all fine until the weekend and I started having electrical issues (not alarm though), after the non stop rain...
Did a search on this and it’s a bit cloak n dagger for some reason so thought I’d take some pics...
So much rain here and has some sudden issues with my 172 at weekend, injection system fault light and limp mode, wont rev past 3k, revs behaving strange etc. I scanned and had supposed pedal...
Blimey, your car doesn’t look slow but the way that thing accelerates after the chicane near the end of the video... mad! I thought it was some rally x mental monster, but only 280bhp?
Came to post this vid, can’t wait for the next instalment.
What makes me happy is how someone like Chris confirms your feeling it’s not all about wanting fancy new cars. I’ve got 4 older cars and love them for similar reasons and hearing someone who can afford pretty much what he wants wax...
I’d also be inclined (if you haven’t already) to get into the fuse box in engine bay and remove and clean up all relay connections and fuses. Seems unlikely a bump cut it out because of leads.
My money would be on a relay shutting things down going off mine having a similar issue before...
I’d like a set of the OE looking ones for my car, have a set of carbon ones currently but don’t like the look. Anyone got some iceberg ones they’d swap for lightweight, racing carbon? (Add 15bhp)
I’ve got a smaller SIP 1600 jump pack and it’s been great over the last few years. Cost you about £100 now.
It’ll happily start my transit when that’s flat (and it’s not really rated for that) so it’ll be fine on any normal cars.
Facebook does seem to be the place to buy cheap cars. I’d say the colour is the least desirable though.
I thought I found one locally the other day for even less and supposedly good gbox and relatively recent belts but I looked up the reg and it had a pretty significant mileage trimming a few...
I’ve got a set of Beta Circlip pliers which are nice quality. They came in a deep foam moulded tray too which looks really fancy. About £80 the set (internal & external with straight and bent in each)
But you can get a set of 4 Knipex for £65 from FFX tools (which you May have nearby)
I have two 172’s
one has 116k and the gearbox leaks a lot
One has 135k and the gearbox is bone dry (had it 9 years and doubt it was ever repaired before)
They’ve lived very different lives though and the lower mileage one has had a harder life for sure. The higher Mile one has always been...
I work in a garage and honestly the timing belt snapping issue is very, very rare. Most people’s cars we see have been neglected and often on belts way over the service time
What does tend to happen quite often is people’s aux belts snap and take out the timing belt then that usually gets...
Anyone got a 1/2” 18v Milwaukee?
My last snap on 18v battery has properly died on my 1/2” & is weak as hell, got me looking at Milwaukee 1/2” guns now.
I like the idea of the mid torque one as it’s supposedly pretty beast anyway and not too large. Anyone got one and maybe had an older snap...
Clutches are very heavy compared to modern stuff but you’ve got a cable too don’t forget.
Seats can be lowered a bit (circa 10mm which does make a difference) Just remove the seats and then the spacers (just replace with a washer to allow them to slide still)
I wouldn’t trust any of them to be honest. One mentioned in this thread and said to be one of the best on MLR I’ve seen a car he sold as “fully serviced” (and we’re talking £15k evo 5) Mate had it delivered to him as it was so mint & seller has one of the best reps (kind of my fault for...
That was the initial idea but I certainly won’t be doing one a decade, one a month on track day hopefully. The idea is also to do some auto solo and hill climb.
I’m not against the idea of a stock car mechanically but it’s more the safety stuff I want to do after watching someone I know smash...
Thanks chaps.
How are they so bad on fuel? You’d imagine they’d get better as time went on. Gearing and weight makes a difference I guess.
Think you’re all rapidly putting me off
I do like the 225 Megane but it’s prob getting a bit serious for a short trip to work daily (I already have 2...
I’ve no doubt it’ll be more dull but I’m looking to go a bit more ‘race car’ with my silver 172. I have a stock 172 and I’m thinking out that and buy a 197 daily (the 172 is already too loud for road) I just really love the look of the 197 and it’s got to have a lot of the hot hatch charm I...
I have noticed they’re a lot cheaper oop north.
I’m in south east, which as you say is a dry spot. Only one round here is that blue one but gel plates etc, broken box and bad dents doesn’t = £2800 IMO
I even like red which I’d have thought would be a hard colour to shift but that one...
I’ve been watching them on eBay for couple of months and I could have easily got a half decent car for £2500 I reckon.
I’ve decide I now want to buy one and It seems the prices and demand has gone up all of a sudden! Has anyone else noticed?
Just yesterday two went on eBay at no res...
That sounds more like an issue rather than pads, maybe the callipers were a bit seized up and you free’d them off? No pads should be that bad to not stop you like that.
