head gaskets clearly gone, can see where its popped and burnt through in the pics, no way that occurred when head was removed, that's gone pop! that's what the loud tapping was as well, text book blow by into the other cylinder, sounds like a rattle.
when I fitted the new engine to mine I paid £300 for the car and £600 for a new engine with manifolds, gearbox and starter. coupled with shifting the good bits from the knackered engine (cams, dephaser, etc etc) the whole project came out owning me £550 with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax on it...
its a total scam when they integrate the joint into the arm, the arms themselves cost nothing, they simply refurb them and usually the inboard bushes are fine/cheap to replace then charge you £200+ for the pleasure!
I get plenty of waves and flashes around Derbyshire, dare I say it it tends to be the mark 2 phase 2 and newer that don't respond or look confused, most mark 1 and mark 2 phase quick owners are a friendly wavy bunch. all in my experience of course, its probably bias as well as you see a lot more...
exhaust manifold to head blowing, or could be turbo to downpipe, not sure which
needs brake overhaul including new front pads, new fluid and rear brakes completely stripping and refurbishing, also probably needs a new rear brake bias valve
needs more boost too, not strictly a problem, but...
True but usually if it's just fifth 90% of the bits stay in end cap n what small bits do make it into main case will come out with the oil.
for the record this has always been my experience,if your in any doubt get a pro in.I go through that many boxes it's worth the risk as swapping box only...
if u fancy a crack urself then drain box oil and whip 5th gear cap off, see if you can see the damaged cog
its easy enough to remove it, 3 bolts for the end cap and one that holds gear on
for my birthday i partook in the RTOC national day at Blyton park. I used this as an opportunity to test my poverty spec engine build :p
The car had done about 300 miles on the rebuilt engine, which in case anyone wants to know went against pretty much every rule in the book. I reused my 14k...
sat on 40.9 average over last 1200 miles currently in the 172 phase 1, that's sort of mixed driving, 12 mile commute on a roads, motorway stuff and b road blasts for a giggle occasionally
mk3 golfs are lovely comfy boats, but personally i'd never own one, enjoy being a passenger in a few of my mates ones over the years though :-)
in other words, clio would be my choice, but again what do you expect, this is a clio forum ;-)
happened here a few times, we deal with batteries so acid spills occur occasionally and the company pay for any damage to cars etc, but from a purely legal stand point I have no idea how it should go tbh
I had nasty one as well a while back , stupidly left the turbo uncovered whilst there...
yesterday I drove it to work, today I will be slackening off the cambelt as its whining and attempting to remove the frontpipe/turbo and manifold to sort the blow I have.
the limiters there for that reason, it protects the engine under heavy use, bounce it all day and it'll be fine, provided the engines well serviced and you watch your temps as others have mentioned
agreed, I was trying to achieve teaser thread with intent to post decent pics later
however all I've achieved is 'blurry crap' ! lol!
r0ssi - its a 1.8 16v turbo, pushes around 300bhp
for those interested...................... power = pain ;) :p
Right, update!
Finally decided to crack on and get the car apart and see whats causing the over-pressurizing issue i've been seeing this season on track.
So this is how the car is stood currently, looking a bit forlorn on the...
