old restrictive centre section look how thin the pipework gets going into the silencer and how it gets thiner at the bends!! it still made 173bhp too with it!....
received my ktec 2.5" recessed system today, fitted it this morning.
the fit is 100% perfect one of the easiest systems ive ever fitted even cutting the bumper was easy considering it was my first time thanks to the instructions and pictures.
took it a test drive and wow, it sounds...
^powersteering pipes wont be a problem though dont all non RS clios have electric PAS or is it just the 1.2s?
as above watch for the steering although ive dropped mine loads and never had an issue was only when i removed all the bolts to drop it more that i poped the steering out, it just...
i always let my 1.2 16v warm up for 15/20 mins before hammering it, once it had its oil temp though it got constant redline action and it went like f**k for a 1.2 and would still be going strong if the cambelt didnt snap at 140k! new lump was only on 50k and was never as quick.
i changed the...
ive saw this about falkirk its quite tidy in the flesh, theres another one going about in a similar colour which looked ok untill the guy stuck a bodykit on it that looks like he made it himself out of wood, totally ruined the car!
172's can cost a bit especially when cambelts due, service due, tax due, etc etc so the guy is maby looking for something cheaper to run but wants something good looking, which is why your car might appeal to him!
its only worth doing if you can do all the work yourself (well apart from maping) so its costing you parts only. if your getting someone to do it, forget it!
still wont be that quick but will give a nice low down torque gain, we supercharged an MG ZR and what a difference it made in day to day...
there was no damage to the thread in the gearbox when i removed mine from my 172 but it DID kill my top mounts in about 5 months......
i think bmh.01 has hit it spot on saying the RS 4th mount is probably helping or preventing the problem.
its been a while since i done it but if i remember correctly theres 4 bolts holding the subframe on and then 2 brackets at the back of the subframe thats held on by 4 bolts on each side (kinda triangle shape)
remove the brackets then remove the 2 back subframe bolts, and just loosen the front...
ive got sportlines on mine with brand new 172 cup dampers all round, it handles spot on! perfect match for the standard dampers.
ride isnt really any harsher, bodyroll is reduced, turn in is much shaper, it has more grip, more stable under braking and cornering and feels more planted at high...
I had a K4M (1.6 16v) engine and gearbox for my old 1.2 16v when i blew it up, but its the same hastle as a 172 conversion and i needed the car back on the road ASAP so i went for another 1.2 16v lump.
if your spending the cash and going through the hastle your better doing a 2.0 16v...
down a backroad if you keep the revs up the 182 wont be much faster than the 1.6 id imagine as my modded 1.2 16v used to keep up fine on the cliosport meets untill we got to a straight then it was a different story!
dont go from a dci to a 1.2 16v! your mapped dci probably has more torque than my 172 and when i go from the 172 to my 1.2 16v when the 172s off the road the lack of torque kills me!
looks like it doesnt have a plastic inlet manifold! someone told me it did, bit more hope for more boost then! get a FMIC on it and replace the plastic boost hoses then map it
Re: The story of a high mileage 172
looks nice mate well worth the money, my old 2002 1.2 16v only needed a coil pack and a clutch in 140k miles! £60 or so each! £120 in parts in 140k miles (obviously not including servicing parts and brakes)
but one thing i would say when you were talking...
angel eyes look w**k dont get them, get xenons from an RS
nice colour could be doing with clear repeaters as said, only get the genuine renault ones tho plenty at the scrappys as the others ive found are crap and let water in!
other than that its tidy, like the grill it suits it, id go lower...
changing the cambelt isnt a problem ive done loads on the D4F its just because this is under warranty, only problem being because its one of our driving school cars we cant afford it to be off the road for more than half a day so really it needs to go in, get something changed and if it doesnt...
