What you seem to be describing is heel and toe. This is matching the revs as you are going down the gearbox.
It is good for your gearbox and results in a smoother change. In a RWD it eliminates the risk of locking up the rear whilst braking and downchanging.
Buy a diesel....
I find it quite funny that you mention the S2000 when you moan about the Clio's lack of torque. For a car of it's size it has more than enough torque. Besides, part of the enoyment of a B road thrash is working the engine, surely?

My cousin has a Viper on his Cup and i didn't notice any difference in noise.
Personally i'd just drill holes in the airbox. I wouldn't say it's any more stupid than spanking £500 on something that does nothing.
Well considering it doesn't run ITBs the NSX makes an amazing noise... but to be fair it's hard to beat a Ferrari. Astons sound good but a lot of the modern cars are more concerned with exhaust note.
