Well expect it to be a lot slower than a 172 cup. They're very economical though expect 55-60mpg average. Once rolling they are not too bad, i've only ever been in a dci 80 though. That was nippy when rolling, most economical of the three models too.
I checked the oil in my Mazda 323 runaround this morning. Its the 1.8, same engine that goes in the MX5. When you check the oil from cold it shows just under half on the dipstick.
However if you check it again when its been run for 2/3 mins it shows nothing :S is it low on oil or not? I don't...
I don't regret selling my ph1 172 because I did it for financial reasons. However I'll be back in another 1*2 as soon as I decide to get another car. I'll probably go for a 182 as they're a bit newer, may stretch to a trophy.
A mate of mine has a GTD DSG. It feels reasonably quick but the torque makes it feel quicker than it is. To be fair it sounds pretty good for a derv, you don't hear any diesel rattle or turbo whistle inside, just induction noise.
The gearboxes aren't good in the Clios. I found the box in my 1.2 Clio even worst than my 172. The gearbox is a minor niggle though considering the amount of car you get for your cash with a 1*2, its not the worst box in the world to use.
The seats I found were good on long journeys because...
Gutted for you mate. Some twisted people out there.
On the plus side its probably easier and cheaper for you for them to slash the seats than if they damaged the bodywork.
When I got my 172 it didn't rattle untill I'd had it about a month. It had spend all of its life down south to my knowledge, I think the crap road surfaces up north caused a lot of the rattles.
They are very good value for money. Servicing and repairs aren't cheap for a hatchback but they're generally reliable if looked after so yeah, they're good. Shame they're expensive to insure.
The alloy bonnet is so light isnt it. I went to open my mates Clios bonnet and though the catch wasn't undone because it was so heavy compared to mine. My 172 had the shift light too, it was cool when it lit up, I'm impressed by small things like that lol
