Update So got the car to lemonobby to diagnose the issues. Turns out the nearside pad had been unevenly worn due to a faulty caliper (Chinese whispers of what he has told me) getting new calipers and pads fitted tomorrow then off to Dan @ sjm on Saturday. One side of the pad had worn down...

Best thing to do is crack open that black box, pull out all the cables (using a sharp jerking motion), blow on them then its really simple to put the cables back in, job done. ​Should help you diagnose any faults with the battery.
