without seeing the car i couldn't pin point anything really, apart from get your old carb if you still have it and compare things to make sure there is no parts missing: springs,clips, plastic bushes etc..:S where are you based??

sounds like a knackerd clutch release bearing to me! get a second opinion

iirc exhaust paste between the manifold and cat is a no no. something like if some gets into your cat it will f**k it up. correct me if iam wrong

has it got a manual choke on it? (little handle you pull out below the indercator stalk)

you will need longer wheel bolts,also i would not touch those ones out of halfrauds i you want to stay alive;)

in that case unless you're handy with cars and repairing them i would get some quotes and look at getting someone else to do it, or just get stuck in;)
