Yes, if you are lowering the car and/or spacing the wheels, all that will happen is the coils will make the wheels closer to the arch, so more damage. And the spacers will move the wheels to a different, most likely lower, part of the arch, again causing more damage.

I would agree on the colours (Monaco, Flamer) but it depends on whether he will mod it. If it is being kept as standard, I would go for lower miles, this less likely to go wrong (har har famous last words).
They are rare, but TBH Toby, they will get knackered again very quickly with your check list.

Stuart, is the creaking coming from inside the car or definately from the top mounts/suspension?
The only reason I ask, over time (having had coilovers and solid top mounts fitted) because the setup is soooo tight, the steering column creaks. Simple spot of WD40 under the steering wheel/above...
