I would go for secret option C
C: All of the above
If the wheel is heavier its gonna slow ya down, and the larger rotation can slow you down a bit aswell, but then there is the extra traction that your gonna get + less wheelspin, so it kinda evens out, and 17" looks the dogs dangles so ...
Rob, then you dont need to ask..
I spoke to Renault Customer Services (about my import 172), they said that I need do nothing in order to qualify for the 2nd year of warranty.
When I was looking for a new car I never even looked at the clio seriously as I knew it was group 16.. i though no chance..
It was only when I tried tesco that I got a shock.. £780 fully comp, thats with 7 points for IN10 and 4 years NCB

CooperS-Boy,
Seriously, how do you rate your car ? have you had many problems ? (trying to stop the bitching)
I have never raced a mini cooper s so I dont know what they are like, on paper the 172 would win.
Do you think you could beat a 172 ?
Just to say that I had a play with an imprezza on some B roads, and could out accelerate it every time (quite convincingly too not just a small margin).
I unfortunaly dont know which version it was as it was debaged though.
hope you lowered it and fitted some nice 17" alloys wrapped in toyo proxies ;)
oh and the fastest car I have been in is a ferrarri modena (spelling ?) but it wasnt moving at the time :(
The fastest thing I have been in while moving is my 172
Looks like this is where I will get my tyres from now on.
What tyre is recommended for the 172 ?
I see the toyo proxies what are they like for dry/wet wear and handling ? or are the goodyear f1s better ?
thx
R is the speed rating, make sure you get an R or above for replacement tyres.
Speed ratings go ..
N -87mph
P -93mph
Q -99mph
R -106mph
S -112mph
T -118mph
H - 130mph
V -149mph

yes in future I will be double checking important things like the service schedule with Renault Customer Services.. always best to have it in writing incase of comeback.
If you wait I am sure you will find a 172 for your price range, I waited and got mine for 9K with 5600 miles on the clock.. they are out there .. you just got to be patient (and willing to travel, had to fly to london)
As far as I knew it didnt have to be a Renault Dealer.
Like a Renault Specialist garage etc. could do it.
I also just got the wrong information from a Renault dealer, see the thread about confusing servicing information started by girlracer
Well this is interesting.. here is the long awaited reply from Renault Customer Services

Dear Mr McEwan
Thank you for your recent email.
I can advise you that the Renaultsport Clio 172 should be serviced every
12,000 miles or every 24 months whichever comes first...
is there any reason why a new ecu wouldnt work on a 172 ? I have driven my 172 for about 2 months now, and got used to the speed of it.. I need a bit more just to keep me happy for a while longer.
But I am restricted in what I can do for warranty purposes.
dont you just luve it when your sitting in traffic, and the dude in the lane across has his sunroof, front windows, rear windows open full trying to get a gasp of cool air. the sweat is gushing down the guys face..
He looks across and you are sitting in your 172, you smile back and rub your...
Yes, by using the air con, I think it removes moisture from the air and allows for quicker demisting, infact I know it works quicker cause when I used the demist I was well impressed.
Instead of sitting for hours watching it slowly demist it dissapears in seconds.
Oh btw, I already knew that...

Dear Sir/Madam,
It has come to my attention recently that there is a great deal of confusion regarding the service intervals for a Renault Sport Clio 172.
According to my service...
I think this is her 2nd car ? you have a beemer too or somthing ? right ?
Well service manual says 12,000miles or 2 years ..
Renault says 12,000miles or 1 year...
I think its time to e-mail Renault Customer Services UK. But I am inclined to believe Renault over what is printed in the manual
