Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Its never ending!
Yeah axle is fine it seems. Not going to bother buying a new disc, considering they have not even done 8k! The bearings done the same, lasted 8 trackdays, suppose something had to give
Think the general stuff thats used is either 44.45mm x 2.06mm, or 40mm x 2.~ as you mentioned..... I know all my cage is made from the first size, cold drawn seamless (supplied by custom cages)
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Well, driving along earlier, heard a few wierd noises (Originally thought exhaust had come loose)...was like a 'ping' noise, like something was catching. Anyway, come to drive it back home and could feel the rear end twitching, felt as though it was braking...

I got mine from here, they do all sorts of sizes.
They were local to me, but I think they might possibly post/ship stuff too!
Weather it be 101 or 105, do I care, no.
There you go then, they were moaning about 108bhp or thereabouts being low and the rollers under-reading in the thread they had on ZSOC? LOLz, thats the correct power for minor bolt on mods, how they can expect to make more....that just shows what they...
People on ZSOC think that an exhaust and filter add 30bhp....so thats explains alot ;)
Everyone on there from a car with 105bhp standard, making 125bhp with just an exhaust bolted on and a K&N brap filter, without it even being mapped, is just clearly not possible. Hence why Awesome(fail)GTI...
Whatever it makes, we all know its the 'true' power of it, considering 1*2's make correct power time and time again there. I.e. the best ones running 168-170bhp from a 172, and ~175bhp from a 182.........so under-reading isn't an issue, just an excuse for not getting the power you actually...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Backbox was welded back up again, sealed now. Il make sure not to cut the side off it again, took quite some time to weld up with it being stainless and thin, and having no gas left to use the Tig welder...anyway, all sorted :)
Flexi Joint added to the...
You'l get there, quite a few of them popping up now, the wiring guide I wrote has been getting requested left right and center!
Trouble free conversion if you have all the stuff now though, all the bugs ironed out :)
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Added a flexi-joint into the center section tonight, ALOT better fit too as I added 3/4" to the length of the center section while I was at it :)
Tip was chopped off and 57mm (7mm bigger) welded on, looks loads better.
Backbox also welded up, was dreading...
