Some of the big cars round my way have them on, chrysler 300c's, mercs, plus a few bentleys, and some range rovers too - all of the cars are black as well. I guess it's only a matter of time before they get busted for them.
If you want to do it legally, I say get an old beetle or an old mini.

they were indeed, my guess is that it has had a whack in the front though, hence why they decided to fit a mk1 front end on it.
It's not even a v6 colour though !
Elephant are exactly the same with their renewal quotes - they wanted £275.00 mor than the one I got online.

A standard valver alarm doesn't conform to Thatcham standards, they are not a cat 1 - tbh it may be worth going to an alarm installer for a cat1 alarm. I did as I wanted peace of mind - plus the insurance wouldn't over it without a cat 1 on it.
I believe that thatcham only came about in 1996...
When I had my old valver (standard) it couldn't keep up with a 172, when rolling a 172 used to pull about 3 car lenghts on it.

I've got these ones, Product Code: R-304 from body kit.co.uk, with silver bulbs which flash orange, they look great loads better than the orange rubbish.
If there are no alarm sensors then it won't have an alarm, so it would be an import. Check if its got a flashing light by the gear stick, if not its an import.
Another thing to look for is the window etchings & locking wheel nuts (imports don't have them)
