Covid182 the longest clutch change ever

Great work so far!! I wouldn't worry about the abs rings, the thinner ones will work by themselves if you get them lined up correctly.

Car wouldn’t start, but battery and alternator are good?

You can work it out by doing the test martin described above. Earth straps are easy to replace, if its not damaged it probably just needs cleaning up to get a better connection.

Why is buying a 172/182 so hard?

+1 to above. The number of nice cars for sale has declined a lot recently so it's not surprising prices are going up. From what you've written I think your looking more at 4-6K to get one with a decent history/spec depending on colour.

    Trailer advice

I wouldn't worry to much if your only slightly over as long as it looks ok and the paperwork adds up you'd be unlucky to get weighed. I've been stopped a fair few times and never been weighed they just go off the stamps on the trailer/vehicle.

    Carry on or move on?

If it’s a daily I’d probably throw in the towel and buy something newer. If it’s a toy then I’d keep it up with the maintenance on serviceable items while squareing some money away in an account to give it a refurb/restoration at some point in the future.

How risky is a cheap 172?

If its got a standard cat in it then its worth £5-600+ in scrap alone so well worth the risk imo.

Still hesitating & running out of ideas

If you've got Clip then looking at the live data is often more helpful than looking for codes.
