I believe M1 means Multi-stage EC type-approval according to
http://www.ake.fi/AKE_EN/Type_Approval/
My parents cars come up null and my neighbours cars come up M1, only thing I can detect is that my parents cars were pre-march 2001, whereas my neighbours' were just after.
Looking into...
Benmore, the car doesn't come up but its trade, was part exchanged today I was told. So previous owner would have switched his insurance to his new car, and trader prob hasn't added it to his policy yet.
When I put my current car in, its says its on the database but no info about model etc...
Tis a thought, but unless it was changed very recently, it should come up on HPI, insurance, etc shouldn't it?
But thinking back, don't think the V5 wasn't in new-ish condition.
Not according to this mate

The X is just there like any other letter.
Would have thought HPI would have for the one I saw, if it did, I wouldn't be worried about it, but it doesn't :(
Cheers mate.
LOL!
I was thinking on my drive home after the viewing, I might end up with it before the meet, was getting a bit excited. I'm genuinely confused now. After seeing it my gut was saying go for it, now I'm thinking, is there a big reason why its not showing up anywhere???
I...
Think I will. Bit gutted as the bodywork was the best I've seen for a 5yr old car and it felt the best 172 I've test driven.
Oh right, didn't know that. Thought it was standard because I didn't need to point the fob at the interior like I do for the central locking on my ph1 clio. Unless all...
Do you say that because that would explain why it isn't coming up? It had alarm and locking wheel nuts which I guess could be added but can the alarm be added into the renault key fob?
So would you personally walk away from it?
The car is very good condition with only some stone chips on the front, and drove excellently. Waiting to see a copy of invoice for cambelt change. Was sold up until now.
Really wanted it HPI'd for my peace of mind. Bit bazarre it not coming up on...
Thanks mate, knew there was somewhere else I could check, but couldnt for the life of me remember where.
So would that be enough proof that the car is legit?
It's got MOTs and V5 with the car, and tax would need that with insurance anyway wouldn't it...
Can't HPI a ph2 172 as the reg says nothing. The most any car history check is that its a Renault and its grey. Some are saying Renault saloon The guy showed me some car report for the car and said its all clear but I can't remember the company name so not sure if its a fake or not.
Even my...
I wouldn't really consider my 1.4 sporty :o think I've been too young for good deals on it in the past.
I saved £140 on my renewal price yet staying with the same company by getting a quote as a new customer on their website. Don't think they were expecting to be beaten on price, esp by...
The only way they are helpful for me is that I went direct to the cheapest one on confused.com and saved a few hundred on the confused price.
Still had to make sure it was the cheapest quote by searching EVERY other insurance company online. Apparently some people don't even look elsewhere...
Saw another 172 yesterday. When it came to test drive, guy just gave me the keys and said down there is a decent road.
Needless to say it got pushed hard. I was fairly sensible as brakes and tyres didnt seem great. But put a big smile on my face, shame about the rest of the car :(
All covered apparently
http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/ww.sys/standardCover
Covered incase of failure, not if changed before failure, at service for example.
The one I linked to has a £5000 claim limit and lists what is included in the warranty.
I've seen some have a list of what is excluded instead but often say the list is not limited to just those things and may include other things not listed.
Craig, nearly everyone I've asked will give only...
Totally agree with getting that feeling for the car and seller, its just when buying from a small trader who doesn't really know the car, its hard to get that feeling as they wont particularly know if anything will need doing soon.
Always scared of getting a random failure, might be better to...
Head gasket, gearbox, random cambelt snapping... that kind of thing.
But you're right I suppose the majority of things wont be near £300, got me thinking now.
How do you mean its not worth it?
Surely its peace of mind for a 2nd hand buy.
I ended up using a sellers warranty on my 1st clio when my head gasket went, saved me at least £500 that did, although that was the 1 month warranty free with the car.
As per title really.
Has anyone bought one for peace of mind when buying second hand?
Been quoted around £290 for a ph2 172 for a year and includes a long list of things inc. failed parts due to wear and tear and replacement keys.
Saw another similar for around £250.
Any opinions on this?
Yeah, on another test drive, I floored it and was quickly catching up with traffic ahead and they guys just sat there saying it goes quick.
This guy was a nobber tho. Not his company, working for a very small trader (3/4 ppl), lounging about, office was a mess, wasn't offered a seat, claiming...
Glad I'm not the only one.
I told the guy how am I suppose to buy a car without driving it properly and making sure its as it should be.
I think his response was "you can see its in good condition".
WTF has that got to do with it, didn't think I was being unreasonable at all.
Got told off for giving it full beans yesterday on a test drive, only floored it in 1st on a long, wide, empty road to make sure it felt right.
Was told "no more of that :nono:, I could drive it like that once I bought it."
I've always accelerated hard into at least 2nd when testing driving...
