Ivan, that's fantastic, even better that you know him personally as well.
I'd very much appreciate you having a word if I get this RS, or indeed another RS.
Are his sevice prices good as well?
I'm so happy to find a good specialist nearby! Muchos thanks Ivan!
Cheers James. I'm fingers crossed about it atm. Too much excitement as well atm as just about to unbox my PS3 :D
Would prefer someone more local to Berkshire, Middlesex side for service and cambelt but if at the end of the day I have to drive further to get a proper job, then no questions...
Hopefully will be looking at it tomo with the buyes guide printed off. Going to be extra thorough since its the first RS I'll have viewed to buy.
Yeah it does seem cheap, so not getting my hopes up but if its good, I'll be putting in an offer. Starting at £2700 sound reasonable? TBH for £3k...
Yeah that's what I will aiming for if its in good condition.
Just got a quote from Rentech for £700-750 for 72k full service and cambelt. Wouldn't be able to book it in for a while so would mean watching it on the drive for 2weeks as I wont be driving it until cambelt is changed and a day off...
2001 ph2 172 flame red for £2995 but no records of cambelt change and not serviced since 50k miles, now on 66k miles.

Re: insurance c**ts
If you can, don't drive for 22 days.
Or maybe find a company that will insure you just for a month or get a policy and cancel with the 7/14day free cancellation period and repeat (I assume this is legal to do).
If you can get the annual insurance started after you have...
Its hard finding a decent one local though :( Not prepared to travel miles and miles just yet. Am checking autotrader, pistonheads and the for sale section twice a day lol fingers crossed something will be about soon!
Thanks Warren.
I was always going ph1 until the last week or two, the only ph1 within reasonable distance needs wings respraying and has no service history. Only considering ph2s as there is a bit more choice.
From your experience, would I feel unhappy in a ph2? Its still a great car ya?
The extras of the ph2 are appealing, but I've never had them so not so bothered, all I want is AC so ph1 is ok.
What makes the ph1 better to drive? Is it the weight difference?
Yeah, I'm not really bothered about that cost.
Just wondering if any major cost differences, like if gearbox or engine parts are more expensive cos being a bit different.
I'm not worried about £2-300. I was thinking of getting a ph1 as a few months ago, they were a fair bit cheaper than a ph2 but wanted a ph2 rear end. Now ph2 are cheaper than they were, its not a big difference in buying price. Just wondering about running costs.
Maybe I put too much info in...
Re: Brought a car then sold the car - How much have you lost?
1990 Rover 216 GSi - Free
6 months later: Engine blown, worthless, crushed :(
1995 Clio 1.4 RT - £1475
2 months later: Written off (not at fault), £1400 insurance pay out
1998 Mk2 Clio 1.4 RT - £2000
3 years/10,000 miles later...
Well budget for buying is a bit stretchable, but wondering if there were any major price differences over the years, except tax and tyres.
The little bit more on buying the car will get a newer car with nicer interior like you said. I'm not majorly bothered about which car as I like the look...
That's why I'm askig mate, but guessing it can't be that different.
My local fitter's prices are 195/50/15 F1 GS-D3 = £44, 195/45/16 = £58.69. Hope that's right size for ph2.
Yeah, ph1s are cheaper but its getting hard to find a good one local, don't really want to travel miles and mosts...
Feck which one is fastest or what not!
WHICH IS CHEAPER TO RUN??? Ph1 or Ph2 (not cup)...
Tyres: Ph1 roughly £60 cheaper for a full set,
Tax: 08/09 Ph2 is £25 more,
09/10 Ph2 is £60 more,
10/11 Ph2 is £60-70 more,
MPG: The same-ish depending on how you drive it,
Anything I am...
2 pack of 501 bulbs at Halfords are about £2.50.
Cheaper to buy on the net I think, but I needed mine fore next day MOT.
Why would the garage pay for a new bulb anyway? Wear and tear? It's like asking for a new set of tyres cos yours are worn in the warranty period lol
Sunroof had/has problems closing so its not been opened in nearly 2 years.
Rear windows having issues winding up.
LOL! I thought there was "loads of space" in there?
The beauty of Renault. It's a car with a free game - Guess The Rattle.
That's why I'm searching for my 3rd Clio :o
It took a second to get used to the size difference, but think they look much better. I like the orange (although suits the exterior better than the interior imo) and will look spot on with callipers done.
But dare I say it, it might look even better to go back to orange side repeaters to...
I only have the electric windows from that list lol
Am I right in saying similar to 172 spec bar engine and sports kit?
Looks like a very good buy mate, great value IMO.
Good upgrade mate, suprising just how much better it looks. Once colour coded, it'll look great.
I nearly did this last year but decided to wait another year for a 172 (now 21).
BTW, what extras did it have over your old car? Was it an RT?
Edit: £1500! BARGAIN!
Your car looks absolutely stunning THE WAY IT IS!!!
The black of the wheels and side strips with the yellow looks the doggy's doo daas, but I think a black roof (even CF) will be overkill.
One of the best ph1s I've seen mate!
