personally as most have said, that is over the top, my mate paid 10.5k for an 53 pre reg cup with about 2 miles on it, from renault in romford. He got the car just as the 04 plate came out & it was the last one they had in stock.

dont worry about heating it up, just use mole grips, i used one of those rubber grip things on mine & it came off a treat, with out ruining the gear knob.

my brother is insured full comp with them, but as a named driver on my dads insurance (not the same company as my dads car-thats separate) would he be insured to drive another car (my valver 3rd party) he is 18 btw.

as dave has said mate, either take the valver furter, or sell it & buy a faster car. have you considered the 2.0 route for the valver ? and then add to that, cams, chip etc. i thought about modding my 16v (as its standard) but then i thought ill buy a faster car any way.

if you leave the outside pretty standard (may be lower it a bit) keep the original wheels etc, and mod the engine then i reckon that will be along the rights lines of what you want to achieve. As it will still look standard but go faster ! personally id say go for it mate !
