For everyone's info, an optimiser like this would do the job nicely http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=9&pub=5575105179&toolid=10001&campid=5337597098&icep_uq=ctek+battery+charger

Worth getting an optimiser if your not using the car regular. They can be left dissconected and not need charging but only if stored above a certain temperature

Burpspeed Version 2: Race Car Build

No front lights, Horn, Handbrake etc Its not been built to be road going from the beginning. We decided that the cost of mot, insurance and tax would e better off spent racing seeing as we have access to a trailer

I can see where you are coming from mate. But the Oddyssey batteries are a dry cell type. If you cut it open, no acid would leak out. I will check this tho thanks.

are 172cup gearbox diff to 172ff/182 asap

were running a cup box in the race car for that reason but it will probably still be too leggy for what we need. Our gearbox guy can change them

are 172cup gearbox diff to 172ff/182 asap

all gears as its the final drive (diff ratio) iirc phase 2 was shorter to counter the extra weight over a phase 1 to keep the 0-62 the same

    How much are car batteries?

The OP said it was for his Nan, i was assuming she wont get bored with the car in a year or so and sell it and was also assuming that she will use the car infequently for short trips. Therefore payng more for a battery to get a very good quality one will be the best option. Yes you can buy...

are 172cup gearbox diff to 172ff/182 asap

You need a cup or phase 1 box for it to work. Phase 1 box will have a longer final drive tho
