I agree with warren on this, The compound plays a more impotant role in the grip you have when the road is wet.
Ever driven on very cheap budget tyres in the wet? even with loads of tread they are dangerous sometimes.
Tread depth only comes into it with standing water.
Ive driven on R888's on...

Adeyspec has a lovely drivers seat. you sit so low into it and it has the wrap around bit by your head.
Maybe one day
Sit in some first, im not overly keen on the cheaper steel framed seats.
Id keep an eye out for some second hand shell type buckets. wont cost much more than buying monaco's etc new
You are kind of correct, its easy to get mega mpg from them when stripped. Its impossible to get less than 40mpg out of mine on the motorway.
BUT
They have two advantages............
Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread
thanks for the coments guys.
Ive got a Cobra Imola for the drivers seat, one of Fringe's old ones. using that retro cobra I have for the passenger seat for now.
I will be flocking this dash at some point but will wait untill the cage has been...
Take the working one into a key cutting place, they should be able to 'clone' it so you will have a spare. It wont have the button for central locking but will start the car.
Should cost 25-30 quid
Just replace it mate, you will be surprised by the difference.
It could even be starting to fray at the pedal end and jamming up in the outer casing (Ive seen 3 cars do this)
It will either snap or stick wide open one day
iirc it was something like 20 -25 quid when I bought mine, not too bad to fit, need to take off the rivers front wheel and liner to get to where it comes through the bulkhead. I think there is a guide on it
Re: My Ph1 172 track sl*g Progress Thread
Yesterday I got on with the massive task of sorting all the wiring out. I have to extend stuff, relocate stuff, rewire some of it to work differently etc. Altho it was only 8 or 9 months ago when I did some of the wiring behind the dash, I had no idea...

Proper update time................
A few days ago my Bro came over to help me with a few things. He's much better with a dremel and has a good imagination. Just what we need.
We rescued the centre vents from the bin and with a piece of carbon set...
As said im not sure how the cup does the speeds. It would be all in one housing. either that or get a blower from another car and make it fit like I have.
Im not sure if its only the cups but they deffo have what you need. The main part of the heater box (interior) can go back in. just bolt it down from the scuttle side with the plastic fan inlet, then when you get a fan just whip the scuttle off again. Im not sure how the cups etc run the speeds...
Be a shame not to have a citroen wiper conversion, now that you've got all that out ;)
Good progress mate, you planning on binning the aircon/re-circ box?
Need a fan from a lesser model WITHOUT Re-circ, Base model I got my dash from had re-circ. You need one off a cup, its like a little snail...
I can tell you have been bottling that up for a while binksy. I know exactly what you mean. I must have 3 customers a day say things like ''it was mot'd last week'' They really cant understand why the mot tester didnt notice that the window regulator/battery/starter motor/coil pack/headgasket...
