get some eibach sport or prolines (the ones that dont drop much :o ) they are better than standard, but dont have problems that 'cheaper' springs have with sagging/crashy ride etc ;)
so in theory i could have a 14 stone passenger and it'll still be as quick as a mk2 172, now imagine if i took out that 14 stone ;)

there is always a way round things you might just need someone handy with a welder/metal work etc.
maybe get a clio subframe kit and take it from there??
