I'd swiftly trade it. Sadly, even well-maintained classic sporty hatchbacks face an imminent fate akin to traditional fuel vehicles. Underwriting challenges for gas-guzzlers and EU restrictions on petrol car production is intensifying.
Forecasts of petrol cars in showrooms by 2035 seem off...
I couldn't possibly say his name but he's not a million miles away from us.
Yeah had both ESP/ABS lights on. The ABS light will have come on because the giro in the sensor couldn't figure out what the hell was going on.
I mentioned this, Jon, because it plays a role in the functioning of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
My first circuit car build had to go to a 'specialist' as I couldn't get the ABS lights to go off. New ABS sensors, ABS rings, and two angle sensors later, it came back no better.
A few...
Also check the Yaw Rate Sensor. I’ve seen those get taken out of track cars to “save weight”. Might be missing, faulty or you’ve unplugged it 🤷🏻♂️ Worth checking.
See if you can lock the brakes up to engage the ABS. Gravel car park, somewhere like that. Then just keep bleeding as there’s still air in there.
ABS light could be a dodgy or dirty wheel sensor, small crack/chip/rust in ABS rings, steering angle sensor, although ESP and Serve light usually...
I've collected a few rear seats which look like they've never been sat on. I've spoken to a local upholsterer and he said there's enough material to rebuild the front seats should I need to. Mine are nice in the RB but good to know should they start looking tired.
The natural order of things:
Q : “My 1*2 needs new tyres, what’s the best out there?”
A : Michelin PS3
(checks prices) Any others?
Chorus : “Michelin are ancient. Avon ZV7 is the best tyre in the world”
(checks prices) Sounds great. Cheers guys I’ll buy Avons.
💭 Crikey, these tyres cost...
I bought a battery relocation kit from Demon Tweeks when I did mine. So have you used the correct cable?
Extending the length of cable increases resistance, which can affect voltage.
There’s a formula for this but essentially you’re just introducing thicker cable. And to take the guesswork out...
Thanks. When I eventually sell my 182 RB, that was the place I was going to list it.
Whilst it’s been a chew for you, it’s been interesting watching it play out. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Is there a period of time the OP would now have to wait before he can trade it? As in the original bidder suddenly rocks up with the money wanting his car and it’s gone the journey.
I found that firing up the engine after bleeding the system with the engine off changed the pedal feel as well. But logically, starting up triggers various components in a braking system, especially with ABS/ESP, causing everything to move again. If that make sense?
From the manual:
The ESP...
I fixed one of mine with these. https://www.toolstation.com/led-ip65-flexible-strip-light/p43662
Just find the equivalent for your country.
But sometimes it can be as simple as a bit of corrosion, so a clean-up with contact spray might fix it.
If not, you pretty much strip off the old diodes...
I've got all my kits off johnyboy-1 and they've always been genuine. It was a few years ago so he might not always supply genuine now. Just double-check first by dropping him a message.
The kit he's selling looks genuine bar the water pump.
I managed without clip on my first rebuild. But it took a lot of brake fluid. I was using Castrol SRF React at the time. That was expensive 🤦🏻♂️
Whilst I now close the lines with brass blanking plugs when doing brake work, I had the calipers off mine for ages. The fluid had pretty much stopped...
