Only payed 6.5k for my 53 plate 172 with 20k on it, and its not cat C either. You'd struggle to get rid of it is the problem, and CAT C is a good shunt.
Should be using new pads with new discs. I've got hc fronts with greenstuff pads and they hold up to the abuse I give them, braided lines are one of the best £40s i've spent too.
Good/ok tyres on the front + shite ones on the back = sidewards, lots. Been there, done it, great laugh for a few days (when you expect it) but not a good idea on the wholeshot, especially in winter.
They're hydraulic tappets hence why they can be effected by low oil, they pump up with oil pressure hence why the engine sounds tappety when you start it after standing for a while then it dies down after 10 secs or so. After starting with low oil its either the tappets or worse (bottom ends)...
I'd go with what you've suggested, amped components in the front and decent coxials in the rears (i'm sure they've got them behind the seats??). I'd be tempted to try one of those underseat subs too tbh, how good they are I don't know.
